The Wimmera region celebrates a rich heritage with strong ties to storytelling traditions. It’s evocative landscapes inspire local writers and artists, fostering a vibrant cultural and literary scene.
Wimmera Wordsmiths is a program created by Wimmera Libraries to empower local writers throughout both their writing process and publication journey.
By becoming a Wimmera Wordsmith, your item will be purchased for our collection and clearly identified using our Wimmera Wordsmiths sticker. You’ll also be added to the below database of local writers and celebrated as such.
You’ll also receive support from our library service along your publishing journey with use of our venue for your book launch and a dedicated marketing package to help get word out about your book.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wimmera Wordsmiths just for authors?
Absolutely not! If you write, you can join! Whether you are a poet, songwriter/singer, children’s, young adult, adult fiction or non-fiction writer, we’d be happy to have you join our Wordsmiths!
Do I have to currently live in the Wimmera to join?
Not necessarily. When you contact us to join Wimmera Wordsmiths, we simply ask that you tell us your connection to the Wimmera region. This could be that you have lived here, are currently living here, or have a strong connection to the area.
Does it cost to join Wimmera Wordsmiths?
No. No part of the Wimmera Wordsmiths is for profit so our staff’s time, the venue hire and anything else comes completely free!
As a Wimmera Wordsmith, can I sell my books at the library?
Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate book sales at our libraries. However, we are happy to support you in selling your book at your launch event, or any other event you wish to hold at the library.
Will Wimmera Libraries buy my book?
We endeavour to include as many local authors in our collection as possible. If you are a local author and notice that we do not have a copy of your book, you can contact us at info@wimmeralibraries.vic.gov.au and let us know where we can purchase it. If your book can be ordered through a supplier, please email us and let us know about your book and where it is distributed and we can order it that way.
Unfortunately, we are unable to pay with cash and can only provide payment via electronic funds transfer.
