About Christina Secombe
Christina Secombe is a proud Wotjobaluk woman who utilizes her life experiences to inspire her writing and artistic ventures.
As a young child, she grew up struggling to read and write, but upon having children, she hoped to give them a richer education and found herself learning with them.
Christina conquered word search puzzles, crosswords and her children’s primary education until her struggle evolved into a talented skill.
Christina gained her Certificate III in Screen and Media in 2018, Certificate IV in Digital Technology in 2019 and her Graduate in Social and Community Services in 2023.
Her writing technique starts deep inside where she reflects on her life experiences until she can fight the idea no longer and she must write her stories. Writing has been an ingrained part of her for as long as she can remember, from short pieces in her personal time to written stories in collaboration with Alan Secombe’s acrylic painted canvases
Becoming Nala
This two-part children’s story follows Wamba Wamba man Alan and his wife, Wotjobaluk woman Chrissie, as they discover Alan’s lost heritage within the Moonacullah Mission. The duo uncover Alan’s junior life and Country by following their instincts in this heart wrenching true story.
Part one includes Alan’s detailed paintwork, accompanied by the story born from their visit to the mission. Following this, she was inspired to write a piece, from her to her husband.
Part two includes the factual journey taken by Chrissie and Alan to the Moonahcullah Mission.
