Victorian Collections is a free, web-based collections management system that allows organisations to unlock the potential of digital collection access. The growing database of objects is a central portal to Victoria’s rich cultural heritage and diverse histories.
Culture Victoria is a website that tells our stories using our cultural collections, and provides information on over 700 collecting organisations from across the state. It also includes a federated search across the website and database of Victorian collecting organisations.
Three stories (Dimboola Banner: communicating history, Nhill Aeradio Station; navigating safely, and Murtoa Stick Shed; enduring ingenuity) relating to the Wimmera region are available on the Culture Victoria website, an organisation dedicated to digitising and making available Victoria’s cultural assets.
Wimmera in Photographs
The “Wimmera in Photographs” is a project to collect historic photos, slides and negatives of the local area and create an online collection via the Wimmera Regional Library’s website.
The Library is always on the look out for more photographs to add to the collection – if you have suitable images please contact your local Branch Library.

“Lost in the Bush” a DVD of the original 16mm film made in 1973. It tells the true story of Isaac, Jane & Frank Duff who were lost in the West Wimmera bush for 9 days & 8 nights in August 1864.

“The Farmer’s Cinematheque” is a collection of archival film by the Teasdale family. The DVD chronicles farm & town life around the Rupanyup district from 1930s to 1980s.

The “Battle to Farm : WW1 soldier settlement records in Victoria” is a project by the Public Record Office Victoria.
The website is a resource for people looking for Victorian government records about soldier settlers.
You can access the individual records of thousands of World War One returned soldiers who leased farming land across Victoria between 1919 and 1935. Enter a settler’s name in the search box or search by geographic location through the digital map.
It showcases 6 individual stories, 2 of which have local significance – Percy Pepper who’s parents were on Ebenezer Aboriginal Mission at Antwerp, and William Bradshaw who farmed at Wallaloo on the Avon Plains near St Arnaud.

A selection of the historic Victorian Sands and McDougall directories are now available to search or browse on the State Library Victoria website. A key resource for researching the history of Melbourne and Victorian properties, residents, businesses and streets. From 1902 onwards the directories also cover country Victoria.
