Using the Library

Community Living Room

Our libraries are your community living room. We encourage you to visit, relax, chat, charge your devices, read the paper, catch up with friends, and make yourselves at home.

From coffee machines to board games, from couches and daily newspapers to charging stations and study pods, we have spaces, services and amenities to make you feel at home.

Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, your library belongs to you, and we want you to stay as long as you like, and take advantage of everything the library has to offer.

Breaking Down Barriers

Our libraries are inclusive spaces, welcoming people from all walks of life, with diverse collections that represent all the many communities residing in the region. Ask our librarians for assistance in searching the catalogue for books and resources that reflect your interests and culture.

We can also connect you to local services and supports. And, we can assist you with making sense of forms, websites, registrations and paperwork, such as navigating MyGov, Centrelink and other key social services’ online platforms. So don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Do You Need to Be a Member?

You don’t need to be a member to hang out at the library. But there are lots of benefits to membership, including access to online resources.

And, membership is one of the key measures of a library services’ performance. So, if you regularly enjoy our spaces and programs, we encourage you to sign up, in order to show your support for this vital community service.

With a membership, you can borrow physical books, DVDs, audiobooks and magazines, or take advantage of our many digital resources including research databases, eBooks, eAudiobooks, movie and music streaming, eMagazines and eNewspapers, and various learning platforms. Our staff are here to help you install and use these various digital tools on your devices.

Loud and Quiet Spaces

Libraries have changed a lot over the years, so you don’t need to worry about being quiet at the library—you won’t be shushed!

However, we do have quiet study spaces available for those who would like a more traditional quiet environment to do their work. Ask your librarian about quiet study options.

Technology

You can connect, for free, to the wifi, or use our public PCs at no charge. Printing and copying services are available for a small fee, and scanning comes at no charge. Our friendly librarians are available to assist you with help on the PCs, or with your own devices.

You can even use technology like a 3D printer or PlayStation5 at one of our libraries.

Programs and Events

We have regular programs as well as one-off events like author talks and performances. Keep an eye on our What’s On calendar to take part.

Open to Suggestions

And most of all, we’re open to ideas for further ways to support the community. Contact us at info@wimmeralibraries.vic.gov.au with any feedback regarding ways that we can expand our offerings to truly make our libraries your home away from home.
