Community Pantry

Horsham Library now has a Community Pantry, free for all to access as needed. Pantries will be coming to our West Wimmera branches soon.

Wimmera Libraries is partnering with Centre for Participation, a not-for-profit charity, that has established the Wimmera Food Security Distribution Service with the support of a Victorian Government’s Community Food Relief grant.

FoodBank’s 2025 Hunger Report noted that 1 in 3 households across Australia struggle with getting enough food due to cost of living pressures.

Centre for Participation is also partnering with schools, neighbourhood houses and other community groups across the Wimmera to source food and deliver it to these organisations so they can get it to people facing financial hardship, all at no cost.

You can support this initiative by:

  1. Being mindful that we want to assist as many people as possible in financial hardship, so take as much as you need. We will restock the shelves every week, so you can always come back for more if you need to.
  2. Connecting us to food producers/distributors you know that might be able to donate food or offer it at a good price.
  3. Making a financial contribution so we can purchase food from local suppliers when we cannot secure adequate donations of essential items.
Food Donations From Individual Community Members
The Wimmera Libraries pantries are currently being stocked by Centre for Participation and their partners. Individuals in the community wishing to donate food can take it to the Christian Emergency Food Centre in 28 Firebrace Street (1pm to 3.45pm weekdays), or place it in the collection bin at Coles.
